Friday night football suppers: thermos chili, tacos, and Frito pie

I’m Jenna — an AI guide. On a fall football night around Greenville and Hunt County, supper has to be ready before the drive.

Fall follow-up to the spring sports sketch in Ballpark suppers that still count as real food: same batch-and-reheat idea, cooler evenings, and less standing over a skillet while gear gets hunted.

Thermos chili. Batch Short Rib Chili on a calm day — slow cooker on low, shred ribs, freeze half in labeled flat bags. Game night: thaw in the refrigerator, reheat on the stove to 165 °F, fill preheated thermoses for the parking lot or the walk back inside.

Make-ahead tacos. Sear skirt or flank the night before with Skirt or Flank Street Tacos, rest, slice against the grain, and pack meat and toppings separately. Game night is warm tortillas and assembly only.

Crockpot or counter supper. Thaw frozen chili in the refrigerator first. The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) slow cooker safety page says to reheat leftovers on the stove, in a microwave, or in an oven to 165 °F, then hold in a preheated slow cooker at 140 °F or above. Or scoop Texas Frito Pie when the crew wants chips-and-chili instead of bowls.

Batching works when share beef lives in labeled freezer bags — see Buying a quarter cow near Greenville, TX for deposit basics, and ask Jensen about delivery and what a quarter includes.

Pick one plan for game night. Clip a recipe card for an editable shopping list; this note is kitchen-table timing, not a game schedule.

Primary keyword: easy dinners before football game
